Post thumbnails are important parts of your website. It is basically the fist thing your readers will see in your short type post descriptions. If your post thumbnails are not in proper size, it will look bad as well as devaluate your post and bring a negative result from readers. You don’t need to get frustrated with automated thumbnails that cut off the sides and crop the image from the middle. Out there is a simple solution for editing post thumbnails. And in this post, I am going to share with you how to crop and edit WordPress post thumbnails.
Every theme has its own default thumbnail size which you can see after publishing a new post. This default thumbnails may not suit you everytime and for that WordPress has an easy and simple sollution.
We can resize our post thumbnails by using a plugin called post thumbnail editor. It is very easy to use and do not need a lot of technical knowledge. First, you need to install a plugin known as “Post Thumbnail Editor” if you already have not done it yet. Just go to your ‘plugin’ option on your WordPress dashboard and click on ‘add new’ button. And there you need to search ”Post Thumbnail Editor plugin”. After getting it you need to install and activate the plugin.
This plugin will give you the option to edit your thumbnails in your every post. You can find this option on bellow right side of your new/edit post page. To have a thumbnail to edit you need to have a featured post image selected first. Bellow that option you will see “Post Thumbnail Editor” button. Click on that and it will take you to the crop and resize page. See image:
I also have a video tutorial for resizing your post thumbnails, so you can also check that out here:
On landing there you can see two buttons 1. crop & 2. view. By clicking ‘view’ button you can check your default thumbnails. Check image:
We have to use the ‘crop’ button to resize our thumbnails. You will get two choices under ‘crop’ button 1. options and 2. crop and save. See yourself:
To edit a thumbnail, you have to select a thumbnail which you want to edit. So click on a thumbnail box right side which is a need to be edited.( As you will see in the bellow image that the selected thumbnail is not showing the full image and i am going to edit that.)
And now come under ‘options’ button, here you will be able to select the aspect ratio of your thumbnail by simply replacing the no. into your desired one. And then you can select your image according to your cropping ratio. You can even change your image into vertical and horizontal positions if you want. And after deciding your thumbnail image properly click on ‘crop and save’ button located in the middle section. See image bellow:
It will save your thumbnail and you will see the preview thumbnails on the right side (Look at the thumbnail image bellow which has been edited and showing the full image now). If you are not happy with your editing, you can always reedit that again. See bellow:
So don’t you think its easy and simple? If you still have some confusions, clear them in the comment section bellow. I love to resolve your doubts anytime. So please comment and share this post.
